SUMMARY:STROBE Graduate Student and Postdoc Mentor Training: Session A2
DESCRIPTION:Many young faculty grants now require that awardees undergo formal mentoring training, and faculty position applications also require teaching and mentoring statements. To help you with your future career, we are excited to offer mentoring training for all STROBE graduate students and postdocs. The facilitation and curricula are from the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), based at UW Madison and funded and approved by the NSF, the NIH, and HHMI, among others. CIMER provides both facilitation training and highly tested and validated mentoring training curricula tailored to STEM research environments.  To complete the course, you will need to attend both sessions.\nThe facilitators have trained over 75 graduate students and postdocs, including more than 30 remotely via Zoom. On a recent post-training survey, 95% of participants would recommend the training to colleagues, and most reported an increase in confidence about their skills in multiple mentoring competencies. Thus, we highly recommend this training, which we have updated to include challenges associated with mentoring remotely. You will learn how to build an effective relationship with your mentee and optimize the success of both yourself and your mentee. The skills you learn here are applicable to all other levels of your professional life and will help you in your future careers.\nFeel free to let us know if you have any questions.\nThank you!\n \nEllen Keister, PhD\nAssociate Director of Education\n
