STROBE Alumni Talk: Jennifer Bales, Patent Lawyer
The Student Postdoc Council (SPC) is pleased to announce the first of the STROBE monthly alumni talks. The talk will take place Wednesday, June 21st, at 11am Mountain Time in room X317.
This month’s speaker will be Jennifer Bales, a Patent Lawyer who has worked with the Kapteyn-Murnane group in the past and whose work emphasizes optics, image processing, and signal processing, along with thermodynamics (in the area of refrigeration and air conditioning), medical devices and other electrical mechanical inventions. She earned her MS in electrical engineering, specializing in optics, from the University of Southern California before going to law school at the University of Colorado. The aim of her talk is to discuss what it is like being a patent attorney, discuss the difference between a patent attorney and a patent agent, and the differences she has observed in industry and working with professors. In addition to these she will be doing a brief Q&A after her talk.
Since this is the first SPC event here is a quick description on what the SPC is:
“The Student/Postdoc Council (SPC) is a group of students who are a part of STROBE who organize workshops, talks, and any events that students and postdocs have expressed interest in. The overall goals of the SPC are to foster ties between the different STROBE sites, industry, and the community. By doing this we hope to aid all members of the STROBE collaboration in advancing their careers.”
Coffee, tea, and cookies will be provided at the Boulder site in room X317. STROBE members at the other sites are also invited to join via GoToMeeting.
